Epic Rules
Upon reaching 20th level, the rules change.
You continue to accumulate XP, and you gain levels at the normal rate, but those levels are no longer ordinary class levels. See Epic Levels.
Keep track of all XP you earn after 200,000. This is your Epic XP. You may spend this XP to gain epic benefits. This does not reduce your total XP which determines your Epic Levels, but, obviously, you may not spend more Epic XP than you have.
